Командам «Мицубиси» и «Шкода» дали специальное разрешение пропустить три раунда чемпионата мира в следующем году, чтобы поощрить их высокий спортивный уровень. Это решение было принято на последнем собрании «World Motor Sport Council of the FIA» — руководящего органа мирового моторного спорта.

В последние месяцы возникли разногласия по поводу количества этапов в расписании WRC, так как представители руководства заявили о сокращении расходов и увеличении взносов для заводских команд. «Шкода» и «Мицубиси» выражают беспокойство в последние месяцы по поводу большого количества этапов в мировом чемпионате. Если количество ралли в сезоне не будет сокращено до менее, чем 16 раундов, им будет сложно увеличить бюджет, как это было предложено заводским командам, и закончить чемпионат полностью.

Впрочем, FIA заявила, что в следующем году «Мицубиси» и «Шкода» смогут пропустить два европейских и один заокеанский раунды при условии, что эти команды не будут отсутствовать на одном ралли одновременно. Можно надеяться, что это позволит этим двум командам остаться в WRC, в котором «Ситроен» и «Пежо» принимать участия уже будут. Так же это позволит внести изменения в расписание на 2007 год, что, потенциально, позволит «Ситроену» вернуться и привлечёт другие команды, как например «Сузуки», к участию в чемпионате.

World Motor Sport Council так же утвердил правила о смене двигателя и о настройках безопасности машин в осеннем асфальтном этапе в Каталонии и Корсике.
